CEOS adopts work plan to support GEOSS

Earth observatoin satellitesFollowing its November 2011 Plenary meeting in Lucca, Italy, the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) adopted a comprehensive work plan to support further development and implementation of the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS).

In 2012, CEOS Agencies will expand their cooperation among each other and with external stakeholders on the following topics: climate monitoring and research, global forest observations, development and operationalization of the GEOSS Common Infrastructure, disaster mitigation and management, agricultural research, and the global carbon cycle.

CEOS Agencies are also consulting with GEO representatives on potential contributions to priority GEO initiatives on agricultural monitoring, water resources, and biodiversity.  CEOS’s activities will be underpinned by its members’ commitments to data sharing and capacity building for existing and new users. In doing so, CEOS intends to continue its vital role in coordinating space-based observations for a more prosperous and sustainable future for all.
