ADC sets course for 2009
The ninth meeting of the Architecture and Data Committee (ADC), held on 8-9 February in Kyoto, focused on the transition to the new 2009 – 2011 work plan and on setting priorities for the rest of this year.
With the adoption of the new work plan, the Committee is now responsible for overseeing 22 Tasks. These Tasks have been divided up amongst the seven co-chairs, who will each serve as “Sherpa” responsible for advising and overseeing several Tasks. In addition to advancing its own internal organization, the meeting took advantage of presentations by co-chairs of other GEO Committees to strengthen inter-committee coordination on the work plan.
The meeting also assessed progress on the GEOSS Common Infrastructure (GCI) Initial Operating Capability (IOC). During the coming year, the ADC will focus on transitioning the GCI IOC phase into the routine operations of GEOSS.
Other agreed priority issues for the year ahead include supporting efforts to develop dissemination infrastructure such as GEONETCast; protect radio frequencies; promote standards and references, intercalibration, and data assimilation; facilitate data management, information management, and common services; and promote the GEO data-sharing principles. |
